51 Robotic Bariatric Surgeries A Landmark Day in the Journey of Surgical Excellence
15 August 2026 will always remain a significant day in my journey as a surgeon.
With Surgical Swaraj, we set out with a vision that was larger than a number, to demonstrate what becomes possible when surgical expertise, advanced technology, meticulous planning, and an exceptional team come together with one purpose: to transform lives.
On Independence Day, at Mohak Bariatrics & Robotics, we successfully completed 51 robotic bariatric surgeries in a single day using the SSI Mantra Surgical Robotic System.
For me, Surgical Swaraj was not simply about performing 51 surgeries. It was about creating a platform where innovation and clinical excellence could work together at scale, while keeping the patient at the centre of every decision.
Every surgery represented an individual story, a patient who had taken a decisive step towards overcoming obesity and its associated health challenges. Behind the milestone were months of preparation, detailed patient evaluation, surgical planning, coordination across multiple operating rooms, and the tireless efforts of our entire multidisciplinary team.
What made this achievement truly meaningful was the collective effort behind it.
Surgical Swaraj was a team achievement. From our surgeons and anaesthesia teams to nursing staff, technicians, coordinators and every member working behind the scenes, each person played an essential role in making this mission possible.
The use of robotic technology allowed us to bring precision, consistency and advanced surgical capabilities into a high-volume, carefully coordinated surgical mission. More importantly, it reinforced my belief that technology achieves its true potential only when it is guided by experience, discipline and a deep commitment to patient care.
For me, the most rewarding part of this journey is not the number 51. It is known that 51 individuals began a new chapter in their lives on the same day.
A successful bariatric procedure is not the destination. It is the beginning of a transformation, towards better mobility, improved health, greater confidence and a better quality of life.
The journey continued beyond the operating room with a special Patient Interaction Session, where I had the opportunity to meet many of the patients who were part of Surgical Swaraj, understand their recovery, listen to their experiences and share in their progress.
The session was also honoured by the presence of Dr. Vinod Bhandari, Chairman, SAIMS; Dr. Manjushree Bhandari, Chancellor, Sri Aurobindo University; and Dr. Mahak Bhandari, Managing Director, Bhandari Hospital & Research Center and Consultant Laparoscopic, Bariatric & Robotic Surgeon.
Their presence made the occasion even more meaningful for our entire team.
Independence Day is a reminder of the strength that comes from believing in our own capabilities. Surgical Swaraj was our expression of that belief in healthcare, in Indian surgical expertise, Indian teams, advanced technology and our ability to deliver world-class care.
I am deeply grateful to every patient who placed their trust in us, and to every member of the Mohak Bariatrics & Robotics family who contributed to this mission.
51 surgeries in one day may be the milestone we achieved. But the lives we aspire to transform are the legacy we wish to build.
This is Surgical Swaraj, not merely a day of surgery, but a step towards the future of robotic bariatric care.
